SYNAGOGUE BUILDING COLLAPSE: 16 dead, manystill trapped – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency on Saturday said that 109
people trapped at the collapse building in Synagogue church have so far
been rescued, while 16 dead bodies have been retrieved from the debris.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the Public Relations Officers of the agency, confirmed
this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
A six-storey building belonging to the Synagogue Church of All Nations,
Ikotun, Lagos collapsed on Friday.
Many worshippers injured were rushed to Isolo and Alimosho General
Hospitals, while corpses were deposited at the mortuary.
NAN also reports that there are possibility that some people
could still be trapped in the collapsed building, as rescue effort was still on.
Farinloye said that members at first did not allow emergency rescue team to gain
access to those trapped in the building.
He said: “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and NEMA
are still searching to make sure that those still trapped in the building
are rescued.
“We are still searching for those trapped in the building so the figure
may increase later.”
As at Friday, only three persons had been confirmed dead in the church
headed by Pastor T.B. Joshua.
