Bayelsa deep seaport to have oil export terminal

Bayelsa State Government has said the proposed deep seaport project at Agge in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state will have an oil export terminal. Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, made this known on Friday at the end of his weekly projects tour. The commissioner, who said work had commenced on the Agge end of the West Senatorial Road, noted that Agge shared similar features with some parts of Morocco. He said the deep seaport would be able to take ocean-going vessels as the state was working towards tapping the wealth from the sea. He also said the state had continued to make progress on some major projects in spite of the financial crunch confronting the government. Ewhrudjakpo told newsmen at the Ecumenical Centre, Igbogene that “despite meagre resources, we are still moving on with the projects” underscoring government determination to deliver on the projects. “Work is being affected by external factors such as rains and dwindling funds which have delayed achievement of timelines on some projects.” Findings showed that while work has slowed some projects, progress is still being made on the three senatorial roads, flyover and International Cargo Airport projects. Others are the Sani Abacha-AIT Road, Opolo-Elebele Road, New Governor’s Office and Ecumenical Centre including Isaac Boro Expressway and Azikoro Road expansion projects. At the flyover, the contractor, Julius Berger was working on road marks preparatory to handing over while at the Tower Hotel, work had reached the 17th floor as well as underground drainage channels. Ewhrudjakpo asked Julius Berger to open up U-turn on the Opolo-Elebele Road at the Bayelsa State College of Art and Science just as main levels were being taken on the runway at the International Cargo Airport. He said handing over of the Ogbia-Nembe Road had been shifted to March next year while on Yenagoa-Oporoma Road, work had progressed to Agobiri and sand-filling had begun from Ekeremor on the West Senatorial Road. Another challenge, he noted was the number of major bridges on the Yenagoa-Oporoma and Sagbama-Ekeremor roads which he stated were eight and two respectively.
