The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday said it had arrested 209 suspects and seized 276.618 kilogrammes of illegal drugs in Kebbi last year.
The Commander of the agency in the state, Mr Okon Okon, said this in a statement issued in Birning kebbi.
Okon said 198 of the suspects were males, while the remaining 11 were females.
He said the drugs include 17.827 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, 10.628 kilogrammes of Benzo diazepam, 19.628 kilogrammes of psychotropic substances, 9.508 kilogrammes of Tramadol and 0.150 kilogrammes of Pentozocine Ergometrine.
“In 2013 the agency seized 392.063 kilogrammes of sundry drugs mainly cannabis sativa and diazepam.”
He, however, said that there was a drop in the quantity of drugs seized in 2014..
The commander said NDLEA had secured the conviction of 59 male offenders, and admitted 15 clients into its rehabilitation unit during the period.
He said eight of the clients were successfully counselled and reunited with their families.
He urged traditional rulers, community and religious leaders, health and transport workers and school teachers to assist the agency to fight drug abuse.
